Charity Partner Program 2019 Round up

At times like these, it is good to remember one of our core values at PPG: the power of helping our communities, supporting the most vulnerable and caring for one another. For four years now, our EMEA colleagues have done exactly this by representing The PPG Way through our Charity Partner program. They have tirelessly demonstrated their commitment to supporting local communities and those in need. In recognition of #GivingTuesdayNOW, a special day of global giving and unity will take place on May 5. Get inspired by the generous and selfless spirit of our colleagues!

Each site across the EMEA region is invited to choose a charity each year to become their partner organization, who they support through donations, fundraising activities and volunteering. PPG then matches every dollar raised and rewards hours volunteered with bonuses. The initiative is growing every year and 2019 was no exception, with 16 countries taking part. This resulted in a staggering $175,000, which they donated to 29 charities across the region.

You can check out the full report for all the inspiring initiatives. In the meantime, here are some standout examples of how our colleagues’ giving spirit made a positive impact during 2019.

The Shildon Site Walk Their Socks Off to Support Air Ambulances

In addition to raising money regularly through clothing collections, colleagues from Shildon in the UK and their friends and family battled the rain and wind to walk an impressive 10 miles in five hours across the North East countryside in support of the Great North Air Ambulance Service. It’s the only air ambulance service operating in their region and it relies entirely on donations.

GBS Wroclaw Delivers Joy to Hospice Children

Our colleagues in Wrocław, Poland supported the Wroclaw Children’s Hospice Foundation, which provides care to terminally and chronically ill children and their families all over the Lower Silesia region. This includes providing home visits by medical professionals and social workers. The team collected all manner of gifts to bring pleasure to children of all ages, including toys, headphones, blankets, cosmetics, games, and baby food.

Brightening the Lives of Girls in Athens

You have no doubt already heard about our colleagues in Athens, Greece having carried out not one, but two Colorful Communities projects for their chosen Charity Partner, The Chatzikiriakeio Institution. Thanks to their herculean efforts, the orphanage (which provides protection and education to young girls) has been completely renovated, giving the girls a much better start in life. The institution then invited the team to their charitable ‘X-mas Bazaar’, where our colleagues were able to support them further by purchasing beautiful homemade decorations and more.

Wuppertal Brings a Touch of Spring to Youth Hospice

Our team in Wuppertal, Germany held a traditional spring market selling delicious homemade goodies, including chocolate Easter bunnies, bunny-cookies and little bunny-cakes. All proceeds went to their charity partner, Bergisches Kinder—und Jugendhospiz Burgholz e.V, a children's and youth hospice that enables families to live together and helps create beautiful and happy moments for them all.
