Our Family Activities in EMEA Gets the Kids Involved!

Here at PPG, we are promoting a healthy work-life balance for our employees. Apart from wellness activities, we have organized many events dedicated to families. Numerous sites across the EMEA region recently planned special events, some of them related to ‘International Children’s Day’.

The Netherlands

On the 29th of May 2018, a group of first year students from the Wellant High School in Aalsmeer, took a guided tour through our coatings facility in Uithoorn. After a short presentation about our company, we welcomed the children onto the production process tour.

This behind the scenes visit of our production facility was part of the school project and it was greatly appreciated by the school. It was great to see that the kids were fully engaged and asked lots of good questions.

Italy

The Italian plants have had a number of ongoing projects to support a good work-life balance.

  • PPG’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) Team in Italy sponsored an English Summer Camp for teenagers aged between 12-17 years old. Our employees’s children and their friends attend this event to help improve their English.

  • This week-long camp is organized by the Berlitz School in the Alps and PPG Italy sponsor this fantastic Summer Camp.

  • In addition, PPG’s WLC Team in Italy supports their employees futher by giving them a monetary contribution for their children to attend camps. We recognizes that covering the cost of this activities greatly helps the families.

Hungary

On the 11th of May PPG Trilak, Architectural Coatings plant in Budapest held a lovely Open Day for all their employees’ families. This was a great opportunity to show family members where their loved ones work, what the plant looked like and to see how the facility operates. 30 participants toured the plant in two groups, led by the shift managers. The day began with a presentation all about the history of the plant from Attila Kiss, Plant Manager.

Children got to sit on a forklift truck which many said was the highlight of the tour. At the end of the event, the visitors enjoyed a nice lunch and they all received a gift, which was a framed family photo taken onsite. The event was a great success, so another open day has been planned for the autumn.

Czech Republic

Our colleague Linda Hlavickova, Internal Communications/PR Specialist,  organized a special day dedicated to children and their parents with the help of other colleagues from Brno, Czech Republic. This was the first Children’s Day in Brno which occurred on Friday 15th of June at Spilberk Castle. Six play areas with various fun activities where set up for all 80 children and 50 parents to enjoy.

Workshops including pancakes and lollipop making and T-shirt painting using PPG’s own Balakryl Paints. Kids could also take home a PPG coloring book. At the end of the day, kids enjoyed a disco with games and took part in a donut eating contest. Brno hope that this great event will be tradition from now on.

UK and Ireland

On the 2nd of June, hundreds of local children showcased their skills in the 2018 PPG Cup, held at PPG Canalside in conjunction with Premier League Football Club, Huddersfield Town. Footballers from across the region, and even Europe, followed in the footsteps of David Wagner’s First Team, competing on the 3G pitches at PPG Canalside.

Nearly 100 junior teams competed in the tournament which also included the first ever entry from outside of the UK. The Danish under-11s team Jægerspris IK progressed into the Semi-Finals after making the special trip to Huddersfield to take part.

All the football players walked away with a certificate signed by Head Coach David Wagner and the winning teams were given a series of football-themed prizes from PPG. On the day, we  raised over £140 for our charity partner Prostate Cancer, who also attended the event.
