PPG EMEA Teams Spread Cancer Awareness

Across 8 countries and 24 sites, PPG teams from around EMEA have increased cancer awareness and preventative methods to an incredible 9,000 employees in over 32 amazing and unique self-organised events.

Below are some examples of these events and you can download complete report HERE.

In Athens, Greece, PPG employees came together for the annual 'Race for the Cure' event. The race involves many different people who have experienced cancer in different ways. The PPG Team, made up of team members from the PMC and Refinish departments, felt proud and inspired to participate in the event, raising awareness for breast cancer. The team have said that now they look forward to participating in the event again next year.

At the Alberton HQ and plant in South Africa, the PPG team came together to support the Pink Drive Fund. The fund supports the prevention of breast cancer by offering screenings in mobile units. Money was raised by selling 20L of promotional cans of Prominent Paints, and the team managed to raise almost 50,000R for the Pink Drive Fund! The mobile Pink Drive unit also appeared on-site to offer female employees free checkups.

Across seven sites in Italy, PPG teams united to raise money and awareness for their chosen charities. Teams organised four different events ranging from screenings for breast and prostate cancer, to the distribution of pink bows to female staff and holding a "PPG Thinks Pink" fun run in Milan to support the Pink Parade and Fonazione Umberto Veronesi.

Elsewhere in PPG AC UK & Ireland, employees continued to support their chosen Charity Partner Prostate Cancer UK. Throughout the year, they held various activities to raise funds including sales of charity merchandise, raffles, donations and participation in the charities national ‘Brew & Bake’ event. Many of the team also went above and beyond holding sponsored activities including walks, runs and cycle events to add to the total.

Employees at Shildon, UK ran a fundraiser event for their chosen charity partner MacMillan Cancer Support. The event centred around employee Julia Allison who took part in the 'Brave the Shave' activity where she raised £1656.25 by getting her head shaved. Julia wanted to do something to celebrate her 50th birthday and decided that she wanted to give something back by making a charity donation. Friends and colleagues gathered at a local pub to celebrate, donate and watch her undergo the big change!

At PPG Cameroon HQ in Douala our staff ran a month long event during Cancer Awareness month in October. Throughout the month, the Cameroon HQ team organised a power walk, a panel discussion with a doctor and offered cervical smears to all female staff members. Increasing all of the employee's knowledge about cervical cancer and to support preventative techniques.
