The Future of Dedicated Fire Protection
PPG has a long heritage in fire protective coatings and we’re excited to introduce an innovative coating called PPG STEELGUARD™. It protects and extends the stability of steel-framed structures in the event of a fire.
PG Steelguard product is a thin film intumescent coating for fire protection of structural steelwork. When exposed to high temperatures, the coatings can expand up to 50 times the size of their original thickness and create an insulated foam layer to protect the steel.

A fire can be burning for up to 180 minutes and the protective layer will still hold out! PPG Steelguard product has been around for a long time. Did you know, it was one of the first thin film intumescent coatings introduced into the fire protection market? It was launched to the market in the mid 1980’s.
These innovative products are produced in Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, China and Indonesia, but are sold all over the globe, with roughly 3 million liters sold annually. As a leader in Passive Fire Protection, we’re always looking at new technologies to make our products unique.The latest development includes a two-component, solvent-free, epoxy fire protection solution for extra durability when exposed to harsh climates. We’re also constantly driving and improving our current solvent-based and waterborne coatings to provide superior drying times.
PPG STEELGUARD™ expands at high temperatures – from a very thin, lightweight film into a thick, foam-like layer that insulates the steel from cellulosic fire.
