A Backstage Glimpse During the Weekend of Science

The Weekend of Science is the biggest national Science and Technology event in the Netherlands. It sees scores of companies, museums and academic institutions welcome visitors of all ages and backgrounds to take part in various interesting activities, unique to the weekend-long event.

For the second consecutive year, PPG took its place amongst several companies and industrial experts to open their doors to the public. Thanks to the great success of the factory tours held the year before, PPG decided to invite the public back to allow them to get another rare and exclusive glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes at the PPG Amsterdam paint factory. This year the exciting and educational event was called 'Backstage at the Paint Factory'.

Visitors listened to presentations delivered by Maurice te Riele, Technical Director PMC EMEA and Kees van Vliet, Global Technology Manager for PMC. Our technology experts introduced PPG’s latest technically advanced innovations and allowed visitors to gain in-depth industry knowledge. The second part of the visit consisted of the factory tour with our experienced tour guides. Hans Zonneveld, Assistant Site Manager and Ewout Verweij, Production Manager in Amsterdam met the public with enthusiasm and expertise, sharing with them the science behind paint manufacturing during an informal Q&A held at the end of the day.

The event captured PPG's innovative strength, organisation and diversity. The weekend also highlighted PPG's values of shared corporate responsibility, focusing on the educational element of PPG's programs and the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects and initiatives.

Overall, feedback from the day proved that it was another fantastic and successful year for PPG and The Weekend of Science. Visitors highlighted several key factors that they enjoyed most from their trip to the factory, including the way the day was organised, the friendliness and enthusiasm coming from the tour guides and how great it was to gain insight into a local organisation in the community.
