Inma Inspires Young Women Into Colorful STEM Careers
Inma inspira a las jóvenes en las coloridas carreras STEM
Inma González Burguillo works in our color research & development laboratory and she is passionate about color. Not only is she PPG color technologist and stylist for Automotive OEM Coatings, at the Valladolid site in Spain, but she presents herself as a strong advocate for women in similar roles as hers. Hear from Inma about her rousing presentation to the young women attending STEM Talent Girl 2020/2021!
Igniting Interest at STEM Talent Girl
STEM Talent Girl (STG) is a program led by the ASTI Talent And Technology Foundation. It aims to inspire, encourage and empower girls and young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, by giving them the opportunity to explore professions and talk with prestigious STEM women from different fields.
The site often receives visits from students. However, due to the pandemic, STG invited the team to deliver a virtual workshop and introduce the world of color in the automotive business – an offer that Inma, Julio Alvarez, technical director Iberia, and Luis Miguel Alejandro, R&D color group team leader, accepted immediately.
Because this year’s STG course was organized to be 100% virtual, they had to adapt the presentation into an online experience. But they weren’t discouraged:
Inma Shares Her Passion with a Dedicated Audience
The color lab team delivered a workshop that introduced PPG, the automotive business, how color is perceived, the steps in developing a new color styling concept and how they transform a color idea into a technical material for spraying cars.
Inma was pleasantly surprised by how attentive and participative the students were. She appreciated that she could share something that she’s passionate about with such a dedicated audience.
Carina Gomes, communications & community engagement specialist for Portugal & Spain, was less surprised. She had no doubt about Inma’s capabilities:
Immersed in a World of Color
Inma and her team are responsible for taking a color idea from a customer’s swatch or photo and, through many trial-and-error tests, matching paint to that specific color.
When Inma isn’t elbow-deep in paint, she’s hanging out with friends and family and enjoying time with her young daughter.
But even in her free time, Inma immerses herself in color. She tells us that after spending all day working in the lab, it's nice to be able to put on a clean dress and chat for a while about the world of color.
As part of the Young Professional Network (YPN) in PPG, Inma also takes part in events and workshops organized for the young talents within the company to empower, inspire and connect them with other colleagues across the region and business units. This is one of the ways she is helping her colleagues enhance their personal and professional growth, and find their own way in the exciting world of STEM she loves so much.

Despertando el interés en el programa STEM Talent Girl
STEM Talent Girl (STG) es un programa impulsado por la Fundación ASTI dedicado al desarrollo del talento femenino. Tiene el objetivo de inspirar, animar y empoderar a niñas y adolescentes a seguir carreras en las ciencias, tecnologías, ingenierías y matemáticas, proporcionándoles la oportunidad de explorar profesiones y contactar con mujeres que desarrollan su actividad profesional en diferentes áreas STEM.
La planta suele recibir a menudo visitas de estudiantes. Sin embargo, debido a la pandemia, el equipo de STG nos ha invitado a impartir un taller en línea y hablar del color en el mundo del automóvil – un desafío que Inma, Julio Álvarez, technical director Iberia, y Luis Miguel Alejandro, R&D color group team leader, aceptaron inmediatamente.
Como este año el curso STG fue planeado para ser 100% virtual, nuestros compañeros han tenido que adaptar la presentación a una experiencia en línea. Pero no se han desanimado:
Inma comparte su pasión con un público especial
El equipo del laboratorio de color impartió un taller donde presentó a PPG y el negocio de automoción, habló sobre cómo se percibe el color, los pasos para desarrollar un nuevo concepto de estilo de color y cómo transforma una idea de color en un material técnico para pulverizar los coches.
Inma ha quedado agradablemente sorprendida por la atención y la participación de las niñas. Le ha encantado poder compartir algo que le apasiona con un público tan interesado.
Para Carina Gomes, communications & community engagement specialist for Portugal & Spain, no ha sido una sorpresa. Ella no tenía dudas sobre las capacidades de Inma:
Inmersos en el mundo de color
Inma y su equipo son responsables por tomar la idea de un nuevo color a partir de una muestra o foto suministrada por el cliente y, a través de muchas pruebas de ensayo y error, crear una pintura con ese color específico.
Cuando Inma no está inmersa en la pintura, le gusta pasar el rato con sus amigos y familia y disfrutar de su hija pequeña.
Mientras tanto, incluso durante su tiempo libre, Inma sigue rendida al color. Nos cuenta que después de pasar todo el día trabajando en el laboratorio, le gusta cambiar la bata por un vestido limpio y charlar un rato sobre el mundo del color.
Como parte de la red Young Professional Network (YPN) en PPG, Inma también participa en eventos y talleres organizados para los jóvenes talentos en la empresa con el fin de empoderarlos, inspirarlos y conectarlos con otros colegas en la región y de diferentes unidades de negocio. Esta es una manera de ayudar sus colegas a potenciar su crecimiento personal y profesional y a encontrar su propio camino en el apasionante mundo de STEM que ella tanto quiere.
