Jesús and His Technicolor Dream School

Jesús Sánchez Garcia is the PPG warehouse team leader at the Camarma de Esteruelas site in Spain. Most days, we see Jesús coordinating the flow of products in and out of the warehouse and providing material to the production area. But for two days this summer, he was doing something very different.

Jesús Thinks Big at Local School

The local public school, CEIPSO Federico Garcia de Lorca, places a focus on the individual needs of students and a positive education. It is teaching tolerance and coexistence in the creation of freedom and joy.

Over 1,000 students attend classes among various buildings. The oldest of these is over 50 years old. It has eight classrooms and a sports field and serves 200 students aged 10 – 12 years old. It was damaged, not so attractive, and lacking in life. But not for long…

Jesús and his colleagues were determined to make a difference in this school, and proposed to do an extreme makeover to this old building through our COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® project.

I was positively surprised to see everyone’s effort and solidarity despite the hard work and the extremely high temperatures. No one gave up, everyone was happy and enthusiastic about doing something different and positive for the children.

A Complete Update – Inside and Out

Together, PPG employees, school staff  and parents joined the efforts to give the building a new lease of life. Using 1000 liters of SEIGNEURIE® and DYRUP® paints and colors from the newly launched CHROMATIC® catalog, they painted classrooms and doors in white, yellow, blue, green, orange, turquoise, pink, violet, salmon and gray.

But the 70 volunteers didn’t stop there! The team also tackled the exterior areas. That means the fence, gate, entrance, benches, pergolas, and even the football and basketball lines are now all like new! The cork boards were also replaced and an interactive board and a few laptops were set up, too.

Together We Can Do Great Things!

The result was fantastic, and something the school couldn’t have achieved on its own. Students say they wish the other buildings were all like this one and that it makes them want to study more.  Also, the town hall mayor, Pedro Valdominos Horche, attended the official opening ceremony.

It was a great surprise and joy to be able to join hands with PPG. There was the simple joy of collaborating without expecting anything in return. Children of Camarma now have a warm and cozy space to study, where they can grow as individuals, and where they can enjoy a truly educational environment.
Hermenegildo Morena Prado, now retired director of CEIPSO Federico Garcia Lorca and volunteer

What will Jesús be doing in his spare time now that this fantastic project is over? He’ll be walking his dogs, taking photos, and staying active. But as a naturally caring person, he’ll also be out there participating as a volunteer in more projects in his area, bringing more positive spirit to his local community.

¡Juntos podemos hacer grandes cosas!
