Teams Rise to the 3 Peaks Challenge!

In early June Lex Dibb, Supply Chain Liaison and Paul Harrop, Unit 1 at AC UK and Ireland, set off with family and friends to tackle the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in aid of their Charity Partner, Prostate Cancer UK.

Becky Holland, Competence Coordinator, was on hand for the 3rd year running to drive the support vehicle. Battling torrential rain and summit winds of approximately 19 miles per hour, the group managed to complete 2 of the 3 peaks, Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside, but despite their best efforts it was decided it was unsafe to continue.

I have done lots of walking over the last few years, but this is by far the worst conditions I have seen. The 3 peaks is dangerous in perfect weather, I had to stop the event due to safety, I didn’t want to be held responsible for an accident. I can’t thank everyone enough for the effort they put in that day, with special thanks to Becky she was a life saver!

On the 1st of July a second group from our Birstall Warehouse took on the challenge, to raise even more funds for our charity partner: Kerry Garforth.

Gail Baraclough, Karolina Zielonka, Lewis Harvey, James Hilman, James McCann, Carl Lightfoot, Jonathan Leybourne and Michaela Lupa all agreed that:

It was the hardest most challenging thing we’ve done, but we helped each other along – everything hurt but we kept going. We’re very proud of ourselves and it was well worth it to raise money for the charity. A big thank you to Glynn Wider for being on hand in the support vehicle!

On the same day Lex, Paul Brotherton and Ryan Galloway set off once again and completed the challenge after the washout of their first attempt, posting a very respectable time of under 9 hours.

Thank you to all the walkers for their efforts and for fundraising!
