Turkey Transformed a Bus into the New STEM Laboratory

Over 25 PPG volunteers have been involved in a fantastic COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ bus renovation project in Istanbul.

Astonishing Bus Transformation

PPG staff worked tirelessly over several months to convert an ordinary bus into a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) laboratory. The whole team spent the day energizing the STEM bus by painting the exterior in bright and bold colors, to create a beautiful entrance for the children. PPG donated 125 liters of DELTRON® paint products for this transformation. In addition, we covered the cost of the bus, laboratory equipment and professional contractor services which were done by our customer BUSCAR.

Developing Children’s STEM Skills

This mobile bus which can accommodate 20 children, was donated to the Ministry of Education’s Ümraniye branch. Each day, the STEM bus will travel to one of Ümraniye’s 93 kindergartens and children will receive specialist computing coding training.

They will also have the opportunity to learn about other STEM-based topics and partake in science experiments. Teachers from the Nurten Yıldırım Sancak Kindergarten have created an exceptional STEM curriculum, and our employees will also be trained as coaches to assist on the bus.

The STEM Bus is a first in Turkey, and it demonstrates PPG’s commitment to increasing STEM-related education in the communities where it operates. We are very excited to help the children in our community to explore the world of STEM in such a unique and engaging environment.

This new STEM bus will operate for five years and will help around 300 children every month.
