UK & Ireland Wins Green Award for Community Engagement!

As a company we love to look after green spaces and care about our employees’ local communities! We’re committed to our role as a responsible business, employer and neighbor. This commitment is reflected in the support we provide to projects through an ambitious Community Engagement Programs that focuses on education, community sustainability and charity.

2018 Winners

On Monday 16th July, our UK & Ireland team won the Global Green Space Business Award for all their fantastic local community work. The Keep Britain Tidy Partnership, in cooperation with DS Smith, recognized the teams’ role in 12 recent revitalization projects within a five-mile radius of our Architectural Coatings Plant in Birstall, UK.

We are delighted to have received this award. We’re so proud that our green projects are highly valued in the community.

Our colleagues Nicole Hewitson, Communications Officer, Tina Duncan, Regional Controller and Julie Mercer, Goods Inward Administrator were presented with this special award at Dewsbury Town Hall, by the Mayor of Kirklees, UK.

Over the last 18 months, we have invested more than £230,000 and nearly 1,800 volunteer hours in our local community to help make it a place where people want to live, work and play. The PPG UK & Ireland community engagement team is currently reviewing project ideas for 2019 and expects to select five new initiatives to carry out next year.

The Green Space Business Award is awarded to companies that demonstrate a commitment to improving local parks and green spaces through volunteering and fundraising initiatives. The Award recognizes businesses that take responsibility within their local community, by supporting and building relationships with community groups, and in doing so, helping to improve the environmental standards in nearby recreational green areas.
