UK Volunteers Help Rebuild Local Youth Center

We recently finished a beautiful COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project in Stowmarket, United Kingdom. It was great to see more than 40 PPG volunteers come together to help revitalize The Mix, which is an exceptional youth center near our Automotive Refinish facility.

A Colorful Makeover

The employees involved in this activity spent a total of five days invigorating the facility’s interior and exterior. They added a great deal of color to the youth center by using over 400 liters of PPG’s JOHNSTONE’S® Trade and LEYLAND® Trade interior and exterior paint products.

The facility’s interior spaces, including the main youth hall and auditorium, received a fresh lick of paint. The bright colors used included Exotic Spice, Mint Macaroon and Moroccan Flame. These colors were specifically selected to create a welcoming environment for all the visitors.

The volunteers were also extremely busy transforming the outside area by painting exterior walls and landscaping the garden with both real and artificial turf. The cafĂ© area was also made bigger thanks to the addition of new seating funded by PPG.  Our Stowmarket Technical Centre gave a helping hand as well by respraying The Mix’s skate park trailer with our new TURBO VISION® coating.

As part of this Colorful Communities project, we also helped fund and build two meeting pods, providing staff with much needed private space to hold one-on-one coaching and counselling sessions.

The Mix - Essential Support for Under 25s

The Mix is one of UK’s leading support services for young people. They help people to take on any challenge they are facing - from mental health to money problems. In 2017, more than 1,500 youths accessed the available services and activities. The fantastic work they do is creating a sustainable youth services which is unique to this area.

It has been excellent working with The Mix, which has transformed itself in the last three years and is really making a positive impact on the young people in our community.
