In our first ever COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project in Slovakia, we sent 35 PPG employees to The Faculty Hospital in Zilina! The hospital is a major healthcare facility in the region – treating more than 200,000 adults a year.
It’s undeniable that certain colors have the potential to influence our emotions and overall health – so we had our group of volunteers (along with the help of 6 hospital employees!) repaint and beautify two hospital departments to rid them of their clinical atmospheres and give a sense of comfort and positivity to the patients.
Revitalizing Two Important Departments
The Gynecology, Obstetrics and Newborn Department had been constructed over 30 years ago and its high-quality maternal facilities needed a reboot. Over just one year, the hospital sees up to 1,500 childbirths, so it was important to our volunteers to bring a little bit of fresh color to a place that welcomes so many little lives into the world.
The Children’s Orthopedic department had not been repainted for over a decade. As one of the only Children’s Orthopedic centers in Slovakia, it was vital that this center becomes full of bright colors to keep children coming for treatment in good spirits. We also added a fresh lick of paint to the operating area – specialized operating treatment rooms need to meet quality standards!
A Soothing and Pleasant Environment
We wanted to create a soothing environment and chose a bright and positive color palette in order to make the patients at ease and their stay as pleasant as possible.
Using 300 liters (79 gallons) of PRIMALEX®,BALAKRYL® and JOHNSTONE’S® interior wall and trim paint, we brought fresh color to patient rooms, bathrooms, staff areas and operating rooms of each of the two departments. In the Gynecology, Obstetrics and Newborn Department, our volunteers painted the walls, cots, baby changing tables and tub holders, too!
