Jim Sarago: Keeping An Eye On Our OEM Quality Goals

At PPG, we are grateful for all of our employees around the world, including our frontline employees who often work behind the scenes in our manufacturing facilities, research laboratories, stores and other PPG sites to make it happen. In our “Behind the Paints" series, we introduce you to members of our frontline team and showcase the many ways they run it like they own it – at work and in the community.

For 40 years, Jim Sarago, quality control technician, Automotive OEM Coatings, United States and Canada (USCA) has proudly been living ‘The PPG Way’.

Jim began his career at PPG in 1982 working in the Quality Control (QC) Lab at the Cleveland, Ohio, Automotive plant. After a couple of years, he transitioned to the Powder Coating Technology Center in Strongsville, Ohio, where he worked in both QC and production. Jim’s career continued to grow, giving him the opportunity to work full-time in quality control, where he has been for the past 10 years.

Jim has a great sense of pride knowing that his daily decisions in QC have a positive effect on the many consumers our products are sold to.
Ernie Cagliostro, QC manager, powder coatings, USCA

Vehicles from many major automotive manufacturers are coated in our full body powder primers and electric vehicles on the road often have our dielectric coatings keeping the batteries cool – these are technologies Jim would have been involved with testing.

“I played a part in spraying and testing the powder clear coats on aluminum wheels for nearly every major automotive brand. This makes me feel great about my role here. It shows me the importance of my technical abilities.” Jim

When Jim isn’t testing our powder coatings, organic ink technologies or raw materials, he is communicating with customers to ensure coated materials meet their specifications. This requires significant technical aptitude in testing to ensure a high quality, consistent product.

“What makes Jim such an incredible employee and an asset to this team is his high initiative and great attention to detail. His many years in production have prepared him to identify failure modes and help troubleshoot issues quickly.” Ernie

Jim is a big Cleveland sports fan, especially the Cleveland Browns, and enjoys summer months grilling and spending time with his family.

We are a global leader in delivering high-performance automotive coatings for a reason—that we help OEMs meet and exceed their goals time after time—wherever and whenever they need us. Our customers and my colleagues make me #PPGProud.
Jim
