PPG Accelerates Partnership with Renault Nissan
PPG has announced a new global partnership with prestigious automotive giant Renault-Nissan Alliance to deliver custom-made structural adhesives and sealants (A&S), transforming over one million cars.
The partnership will deliver tailor-made structural adhesives to more than one million Renault, Nissan and Samsung cars across Europe, Asia, North America and South America.
Structural adhesives can reduce the use of spot-welding in manufacturing cars and will also result in significant weight savings, reduced emissions and improved fuel economy.
Thanks to the extensive testing and intense cooperation between PPG and Renault Nissan, the new adhesive has been acclaimed 'above industry standards' for its ability to significantly improve durability and manufacturing efficiency.
Chemists and designers came together to develop this custom made adhesive. Testing and development took place at both PPG's technology center in Saint-Just-en-Chaussée, France and in Renault Nissan technical centers and plants. As well as developing this new structural adhesive, teams worked together to produce new chemical formulations to enhance its performance.
Our chemists and engineers worked side by side with Renault Nissan’s designers and manufacturing teams across Asia, the Middle East and Europe to deliver this unique technology. This successful collaboration is a key step forward for PPG’s business and sends a strong message to all our customers that we are committed to developing high quality tailor-made products.
Maxime Goldberg, PPG Global Business Director, Automotive Adhesives and Sealants (A&S)
Teams from across many PPG departments were also involved in making this project a success. Out of the labs and into offices and factories, PPG sales team members Hervé Hurel and Ludovic Boucneau were key to continuing the hard work carried out by our international chemists and engineers.
The industry is rapidly changing with new technologies and materials used to design and manufacture cars. Today, original equipment manufacturers are under enormous pressure to reduce the weight of a car, and our custom made structural adhesives are a continuation of our ambition to solve some of their biggest challenges.
Pascal Saunier, PPG Key Account Manager of Renault-Nissan, (A&S)
Both PPG and Renault Nissan have succeeded in creating a structural adhesive that will strengthen the bind between car parts, resulting in reduced vehicle vibration, making the ride more comfortable for consumers as well as improving the environment by reducing fuel emissions and efficiency.
