We recently attended the 70th anniversary celebration of the German automaker, Porsche, in South Africa!
Porsche has been represented in South Africa since 1952, just four years after the first Porsche, the 356 “No.1” Roadster was certified for road use. Porsche South Africa proudly participated in the automaker’s 70th anniversary celebrations by staging their own customer event at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre in June 2018.
Our local team was delighted to support the occasion. For years, PPG have provided products to the Porsche production line. This includes various topcoat colors as well as specialist e-coating corrosion prevention solutions to keep cars looking brand new.
In our latest collaboration, we’ve been given the opportunity to see our coatings play a greater role in the future of their automobile models.
Because of our team’s incredible work with Porsche, they received an invite to their anniversary event. The spectacle featured over 1,500 vehicles and thousands of customers gathered to celebrate. There was even a replica of the 356 Number 1 – the first real Porsche car created by Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche.
The Bodyshop Division
To show our appreciation and love for what we do, members of PPG South Africa were on hand at Porsche’s Bodyshop Division during the celebration. Our colleagues explained the different repair processes and science behind the coatings used on Porsche vehicles to intrigued customers.
The fact that a major sports car manufacturer like Porsche trusts our refinish solutions highlights the strength of PPG’s global expertise and the ability to deliver it at a local level. The relationship built between Porsche South Africa and the PPG team is a shining example.

Our Collaborative History
Back in 2014, Porsche AG gave our paint products the thumbs-up for use on Porsche vehicles in the refinish market. Our ENVIROBASE® High Performance waterborne system was one of many reasons we gained their landmark approval.
Thanks to its color accuracy, metallic control, speed, efficiency and ease, our colleagues get to work alongside one of the most popular car manufacturers in the world. In that same year, PPG South Africa was chosen to be the preferred paint supplier for their regional network of body repairers.
We’re grateful to be part of Porsche’s history, and we are thrilled to continue working alongside them.
