PPG MOONWALK Generates a ‘Fantastic Buzz’ in Paris

PPG MOONWALK™ is an automated paint-mixing system that has been dazzling the auto body repair industry since its unveiling on a starry summer night on a Madrid rooftop. This revolutionary system also recently wowed visitors in a city synonymous with style — Paris.

MoonWalk received the judges’ Innovation Trophy at the international EQUIP AUTO aftermarket trade show in October. The five-day event featured more than 1,200 exhibitors from 40 countries.

In addition to being selected a judges’ favorite, the futuristic MoonWalk exhibit was a definite hit with show-goers, who poured onto the stand to peer through its windows.

From a customer and prospective customer relationship point of view, this was a great success. Actually, beyond expectations.
Jerome Zamblera, PPG vice president for Automotive Refinish in the EMEA region

The self-contained MoonWalk system brings a new level of speed, precision, quality and color consistency to the body shop mixing process. It features 80 storage spaces for tinters and 13 positions in the dispensing rack. Other components include a moving scale that is 10 times more precise than a standard scale, a barcode scanner and a label printer.

The integrated PPG TOUCHMIX® Express touchscreen computer, with PPG PAINTMANAGER® XI color management software, displays the correct color formula. The user can then load the required tinter, additive and thinner bottles into the dispensing rack in any sequence. The system checks each bottle’s barcode, automatically dispenses the correct amount of product, communicates the results and prints a label.

Our teams conducted more than 150 live MoonWalk demonstrations for more than 2,400 visitors during the EQUIP AUTO.
