Innovation Day Turin - Sharing Technology
On the 8th of February, 130 delegates gathered at a PPG event in Turin to share and discuss ideas on Technological Innovation in the automotive sector.
The audience, mainly made up of major PPG customers and clients, were met with an introduction from Roald Johannsen, General Manager EMEA and Silvio Licitra, Head of FCA Paint Engineering.
The talk highlighted serious issues within PPG from innovation in safety, environment, and optimisation of resources, to energy, advanced sustainability approaches and new development methods. There were three presentations to follow, all of which focused specifically on topics relevant to the automotive sector. The presentations of the day focused specifically on three main topics of general interest to all automotive sector and especially for Group FCA.
First to present was Dennis Taljan, PPG Global Technical Director
He gave an insightful analysis of the macro trends in the Automotive Market for the future, touching on security, connectivity, automated guided vehicles, energy consumption, composite materials and quality improvements and their impact on painting cycles. Dennis finished with a point on the development of processes and tools that PPG apply regularly to accelerate the industrialisation of new technology.
The second presentation was held by William Brunat, PPG Technical Director EMEA
William dealt with aspects of painting systems for the Premium sector and presented new products recently developed by PPG that ensure optimised performance through the use of innovative materials that reduce the overall weight of the shell.
The technical presentations concluded with Peter Vortuba Drzal, Senior Research Manager, Allison Park
Peter's talk focused on environmentally friendly coating systems and coating plants of the future. He outlined some of PPG's most innovative developments in low-temperature coating systems and new technologies for Adhesives and Sealants, Pre-treatment and Cataphoresis.
Tim Knavish, Senior VP Automotive, at the end of presentations emphasized the importance of the existing partnership between FCA and PPG and in the afternoon, delegates were offered a more personal experience where customers were able to speak directly with our expert technicians and discuss topics most relevant to them.
The Innovation Day was met with gratitude from delegates and recognition of our commitment to sharing knowledge which is deep-rooted in the culture of PPG.
