Behind the Paints with Mauricio Roa

As the lead batch maker at PPG’s Automotive Refinish plant in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Mauricio Roa is constantly on the go managing the batch process for nearly a dozen PPG products, including aerosols, marine coatings, bumper coatings and clear coatings. He does his job with precision and an unwavering commitment to quality with one goal in mind - to make sure he and his three-member team blend paints and chemicals according to exact specifications.

“You get his best every day,” said Johnathan Haile, supervisor, Paint/Epoxy. “He makes batches, communicates with his team, shares his knowledge and pushes everyone to be better than they were yesterday. We’re successful because of people like Mauricio.”

Mauricio brings nearly a decade of experience to his position and stands ready to share his skills whenever and wherever needed. In recent weeks, he joined colleagues from PPG's Architectural Coatings business to help launch GLIDDEN® MAX FLEX™ at The Home Depot. As Glidden's first spray paint and primer, Max Flex leverages technology used in some of PPG's most successful aerosol repair and refinish products. Mauricio's expertise played a critical role in the product roll-out, from scheduling and tank capacities to weighting and labelling.

It was a very quick turn-around but a great learning experience. My job can be different every day because of opportunities like Max Flex. That's how I like it. I enjoy being challenged and setting goals for myself.

Mauricio also takes pride in setting a good example for his team members.

"Mauricio is one of the top three people I have ever worked with," said David 'Mickey' Shrader, batch maker. "He's knowledgeable and skillful, and just an overall genuinely good person who loves this place."
